Love Sport? Drink Beetroot Juice!

Got Beetroot?

According to a UK study, drinking beetroot juice can boost stamina by up to 16%. This is both interesting and encouraging. In the most recent global study of shopper trends by HealthFocus International we were interested to see the increased demand for products offering sustained energy to ‘help get me through my busy day’.

Some may be surprised to learn that an increase in personal energy and getting through the day now top the list of desired benefits from shoppers in most markets. This means it’s unseated the previous top result of buying to meet the health needs of my family. However, we believe this is in line with the economic upheaval and uncertainty in 2009. Perhaps, people are focusing on keeping their jobs and worrying about family next?

So how can beetroot do it? Well, according to the study, it reduces the uptake of oxygen during exercise - making it less tiring. Researchers believe there may be wide ranging applications with significant benefits for those with cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic diseases - and not just endurance athletes. Regardless, this builds on a previous study in February 2008 which reported that Beetroot Juice may reduce blood pressure.

Is there no end to the powers of beetroot? Where can I buy some? Well, I’m saying watch the shelves because you’re going to see a lot of it. It’s not hard to believe. We have carrot juice why not colour the shelves with its new power partner - beetroot juice.

  • Very interesting article. A 16% increase in stamina is not enough to get me to drink the stuff. It just sounds nasty! I could be wrong though. It just might taste good.
